Here the Neon Cats are roaming the streets of Wellington as part of the LUX festival. They are otherworldly and feel like ethereal visitors to Earth. Moving slowly through the city-scape and gather an audience wherever they stop. From a distance they are beautiful and as you get closer you realise you can see yourselves displayed in their eyes.
This project was initially inspired by the Cheshire Cat from Alice and Wonderland. This characters ability to disappear and re-appear, and ways it could be achieved in real life through lights, and shadow. This final, elegant piece is the result of much concept iteration and prototyping. We love how the piece evolved.
